Carol A. Hemesath, 79, of Dubuque died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Hawkeye Care Center. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Carol was born June 19, 1938 in Dubuque, daughter of Clem and Irma (Kielhold) Fransen. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and worked as a dialysis tech at Tri-State Dialysis.
On October 26, 1957 she married Gerald Hemesath at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1988.
Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed dancing, and met her husband while dancing at Melody Mill. She was a long-time volunteer with Hospice of Dubuque and was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Award by Gov. Branstad.
As Carol would have loved, she was surrounded by family in her final days. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Mother’s Club for over 50 years. She was a homemaker raising her children and later working as a dialysis tech. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
She is survived by five children, Ross (Julie) Hemesath of Dubuque and their children, Eric (Michelle) and Brad (special friend Erika); Linda (Dave) Cabalka of Manchester and their children, Greg (April), Jordan (Katie), and Jay (Shellie); Laurie (Norm) Leliefeld of Dubuque and their children, Amy (Jon) Fangman, and Andrew (special friend Emily); Ann (Chris) Bandy of Bettendorf and their son, Nicholas (Jessica); and Brian (Crystal) Hemesath of West Des Moines, IA and their children, Quinn, Ellie and Ivy; a daughter in law, Bill’s widow, Laura Hemesath and their children, Jennifer (Tejas) Shastry, Kaitlyn and Kimberly. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren and a brother, Paul (Ruth) Fransen of Peosta.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Bill Hemesath.
