Mary Mildred “Millie” Duffy, 96, of Dubuque, formerly of Pompano Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at Luther Manor
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 at St. Raphael’s Cathedral. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7 pm.
Mildred was born on Sept. 20, 1918 in Dubuque, the daughter of Anton A. and Eleanor (Kelsh) Freund.
She married Patrick E. Duffy on April 22, 1946 at St. Raphael’s Cathedral. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1990.
Mildred graduated from the Mercy College of Nursing in 1939. She served our country during WWII as an Army Nurse.
After the war she returned to Dubuque and was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and Manor Care.
She was a member of Dubuque American Legion Post #6 and a life member of the Pompano Beach American Legion Post #142.
Surviving are her children Jean (Karl) Kohnen, of Dubuque, Kit (Raymond) Kengott, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Colleen Duffy, of Dubuque, and Margaret (Steven) Canter of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; four grandsons; David (Sarah) Kohnen, Michael (Valerie) Kohnen, Daniel Kohnen and John Canter; three granddaughters, Laura (Don) Stanner, Sara (Rob) Hofer, and Rachel Canter; four great grandsons and three great granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Freund, of Dubuque.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Joan Ellen Duffy and, Dr. Sister Mary Susan Duffy, RSM, M.D.; and two brothers, Robert and George Freund.
