Ruth Ellen Becker, 85 died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at UnityPoint Finley Hospital. In accordance with Ruth's wishes, there will be no public funeral services. A Mass in her honor will be held at The Church of The Nativity at a later date. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Ruth was born on April 27, 1929 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of RJ and Minnie (Meyer) Becker of Calmar. She received her BA from Loras College and taught primary grades for 20 years and then 6 years with a craft and needle work program for the elderly.
In 1976, when her mother became ill in Richmond, VA, Ruth took a year of absence to assist her mother. After her mother's death, Ruth moved to Cedar Rapids, IA and worked as an activity director at a care center. Retiring from activity work, Ruth worked for various parishes in the diocese as a parish secretary and housekeeper.
Survivors include her brother, John G. (Shirley) Becker of Erie, PA; her sister-in-law, Janice Becker of Scottsdale, AZ and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Joan Gonner, Virginia Dawson, MaryAnne Deibel and Kathy Glover; her 5 brothers, Lawrence, Robert, Howard, Willis and Charles; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
Memorials may be given to Nativity Church, the Sisters of the Presentation or Camp Courageous.

The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd is in charge of arrangements.
