Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at the Church of The Resurrection with Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Asbury. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017 and from 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Friday at Resurrection Church. A parish scripture wake service will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Austin was born on December 6, 1991 in Dubuque, Iowa, the beloved son of Kevin and Lynne (Hansen) Hennings. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 2010 and attended the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. Austin was an Installation Technician with RACOM Critical Communications, an active volunteer with the Asbury Fire Department and the Sundown Mountain Ski Patrol. Prior to joining RACOM, Austin previously worked at Menards, Horsfield Construction, Weber Concrete Services, Gronen Restoration, MC Sports and Dairy Queen.
At a young age, Austin loved to tinker with cars and anything that involved a remote control. He participated in, and won, several RC car races. He was so excited and proud to show off his Grandpa Wayne's 1973 Ford LTD at the local car shows that he became a member of the Tri-State Antique and Classic Automobile Club. Austin loved riding and driving "Papa John's" John Deere Tractor around the yard.
Austin's love of skiing led him to Sundown Mountain, where he became a ski-wee instructor and a nationally certified ski patrol member. That willingness to help others and his sense of patriotism also led him to become a third-generation member of the Asbury Fire Department. His most recent passion was ATV riding alongside his dad and members of the of the North East Iowa Action Trail "NEAT" Riders Club, of which he was Vice President.
Austin found his perfect job when he joined the RACOM team in 2013 as he quickly realized his passion for the position. Austin was a perfectionist who took pride in his work and was so meticulous that several customers would specifically request him to work on their projects. He loved the RACOM family and looked up to Tanner Metz as a brother.
Austin's life was filled with so much fun and activity. He enjoyed hiking, running, sports, bowling, video games, country music, line-dancing and bonfires with family and friends. Austin had a love of animals, especially his dog Bailey.
Austin's trademark features, other than a baseball hat, were his infectious smile, laugh, quiet sensitivity and genuine personality all of which left a positive impact on everyone around him. When anything needed to be done, Austin was there to get it done. He just loved to help. Austin never knew a stranger because people were immediately attracted to his warmth and kindness. He will be dearly missed; however, his countless contributions to family, friends and the community will live on forever.
Those left to honor and cherish Austin's memory include his parents Kevin and Lynne Hennings of Asbury, IA; his sister Ashley (Chad) Saeugling of East Dubuque, IL and their daughters Brianna, Brooklyn and Becca; his maternal grandparents John and Mary Ann (Bahl) Hansen of Asbury, IA; his paternal grandmother Jeneene (Hines) Hennings of Dubuque, IA; aunts Dawn (Chuck) Andracchio, JoAnn Hansen (fiancé Tom Goodman) all of Dubuque, Shelly Holland, of Durango, IA; uncles Steve (Diane) Hansen, of Blue Grass, IA, Calvin "C.J." (Debbie) Hennings, Jack (Yolanda) Hennings, Billy (Mary) Hennings, all of Dubuque; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Wayne Hennings, uncle Dan Holland, and his dog Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, an Austin Hennings memorial fund has been established. Donations may also be sent to the Asbury Fire Department, the Asbury Eagle's Club or the Dubuque Regional Humane Society in his name.
The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
