Obituary for Adella M Olsen (Friesen)
ADELLA ‘Del’ OLSEN, 88, died at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Dubuque, IA on January 30, 2017.
Adella Friesen was born in Faribault, MN to Susan (Aube) and Walter Friesen on July 10, 1928. Her family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN for her high school years. After high school, she went to the big city and worked for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Del met Don Olsen in Brainerd, MN at a dance. They moved to Davenport, IA and later to Bettendorf. Del was a homemaker until Sue went to high school and then worked for McGraw-Hill/F.W. Dodge Reports for about 20 years. Upon retirement, Don and Del traveled in their 5th wheel and then settled in McAllen, TX for 16 years. They moved to Dubuque in 2009 for health reasons. Besides family and friends, Del enjoyed playing bridge, golf, reading, dancing at Pepes, and, in Texas with the girls, water aerobics.
Given such a long life, Del was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and many relatives and friends, especially her beloved cousin, Vernie. She is survived by her only child Sue Olsen, absolute favorite grandson Vic Elder (Dani Rothman), brother Bob (Jacque) Friesen as well as nephews and nieces, Bruce (Mary), Jeff (Nancy), Ron, Gary, Mona (Kevin), Michael, and very helpful former son-in-law, Mark Elder.
There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to support Del’s passions and the places that supported her.
Many thanks to the amazing staff at Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, Luther Manor, and Dr Steffen for their competent and loving care and attention. Additional thanks to family and friends who were part of our lives throughout.
