Roger was born on July 22, 1931 in North Buena Vista, Iowa, the son of Fred and Anna (Zimmer) Link. He graduated from Loras Academy and was a Navy veteran. On July 20, 1957, Roger married Virginia (Barry) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church and employed at the Dubuque Packing Company for 33 years. Roger enjoyed grilling (always with a beer in his hand), making head cheese, playing euchre and manicuring his lawn until it looked like a golf course. Family meant the world to him, especially the relative’s annual “up north” trip to Big Birch Lake in Minnesota.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; his daughter Ann (Bob) Buol of Weatherford, TX, his son Jerry Link of Dubuque, IA, his step-son Rex (Judy) Graham of Bellevue, IA; 7 grandchildren; 6 1/2 great grandchildren; his sister Emma Parkin of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Dorothy Frommelt, Agnes Thies, Fred Link, Walter Link, Katie Rupp, Alvin Link and Joan Schmitt; his step-daughter Donna Clauer.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center.
Special thank you to the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque.
