Obituary for Clara McLaughlin (Wolter)
Clara M. McLaughlin, 90, of Dubuque died Friday, December 09, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center with her loving children by her side. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 to 7 pm. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Clara was born Christmas Day, December 25, 1925 in North Buena Vista, Iowa, daughter of Raymond and Frances (Dean) Wolter. On August 3, 1945, she married John M. McLaughlin at St. John Episcopal Church. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2010.
Clara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family. She was a longtime member of St. John Episcopal Church. She enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Clara is survived by three children, Diane (George “Sonny”) Peil of Dubuque, Danny (Dawn) McLaughlin of Eldridge and Sharon (Tom) Spiegelhalter of Peosta; a daughter in law, Viola “Babe” McLaughlin of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; step father, George “Gramps” Johnson; a son, John McLaughlin Jr., a great grandson, Gage Peil and her sister and brother in law Margaret and Ben Atchison.
A Clara McLaughlin Memorial Fund has been established.
