John Patrick “Pat” O’Hara 75, of Peosta, IA passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, December 07, 2016. Per Pat’s wishes, a private family funeral mass will be held. A celebration to honor Pat’s life will be announced at a later date.
Pat was born on December 16, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of James and Margaret LaVanche O’Hara. He grew up in Lost Nation, Iowa and graduated from Maquoketa High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Pat attended Loras College, graduated from the Wisconsin School of Mortuary Science and later received his BA in business from St. Ambrose College. On June 13, 1964 Pat married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Campbell at Sacred Heart Church in Maquoketa, IA. After a brief career in the funeral profession and working as an account executive with Alter Co., he and Joanne established the first Happy Joe’s Pizza Parlor in Dubuque in 1974 and subsequently opened two more stores. Pat enjoyed the game of golf and was past club champion at Dubuque Thunder Hills Golf and Country Club and The Vines Golf and Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne of Peosta, IA; three daughters Kelly (Steve) Kehoe of Denver, IA, Kim (Tom) Tiefenthaler of DeWitt, IA and Kasey (Ryan) Schulz of Polk City, IA; his grandchildren, Kimberly, Kyle, Kameron, Tyler, Brody, Griffin, Zoey, Jordan, Brady, Campbell and Beau; his brother, Rich (Wendy) O’Hara and his sister, Kathy (Phil) Romer both of Peosta, IA. and his brother-in-law Jim Peretti of Great Falls, MT.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Lois Campbell; his sister-in-law Mary Peretti and his brother-in-law Donnie Campbell.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 1670 JFK Rd., Dubuque, IA 52002 or Thunder Hills youth golf program, 16682 Thunder Hills Dr., Peosta, IA 52068
Pat’s family extends a special thank you to Drs. Eric Engelman and Charles Parker, Hospice of Dubuque, the nurses and staff at Mercy Health Center and his grandson Brody, for their constant care and support.
