Robert J. Mills, 87, of Dubuque, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 23 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m., Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road and from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m., Friday, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Robert was born on March 18, 1929 in Dubuque the son of Percy and Marcella “Sue” (Kersch) Mills.
He married Shirley Koeneke on September 25, 1954 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Robert was employed at Caradco, Spahn and Rose, Rock Island Millwork and Zephyr Aluminum.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing softball. He was an avid Yankees and Hawkeye fan.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Shirley; children, Steven Mills, Cindy (Chris) Reding and Randy (Gayla) Mills, all of Dubuque; 2 grandsons, Eric (Valerie) Key, of Marion, IA., and Cory (Lacy) Reding, of Dubuque; 4 great- grandchildren, Ryan, of Marion, IA., Clayton, Brooklyn and Preston; sister, Margo Morris; brother, Dick (Rose) Mills, all of Dubuque; and sister-in-law, Charlene Mills, of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John “Jack” Mills; sister, Patricia (Louis) Hanson; and brother-in-law, Walter Morris.
