Betty M  Butler (Hendricks)
Betty (Hendricks) Butler, 83, of Dubuque, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at her home at home, surrounded by family, after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road, with the Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Betty was born on August 1, 1933 in Pitchard, Oklahoma, and raised in Joplin, MI by her father Lee Roy Hendricks, who served in the 35th regiment of the United States Army during WW1, and her mother, Dorothy May (Young) Hendricks.
Betty served her country with pride and honor as a nurse in the 6th medical core of the US Army, where she met her husband to be, James Butler, in Fort Sill, OK. He was a was also a member of the army and from Dubuque.
Betty moved to Dubuque and married James on April 23, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church. They celebrated 60 years of love this April.
Betty worked at Bishops Buffet for 16 years before retiring.
Surviving is her husband, James; sons Patrick (Sharon) Butler, of Asbury, Michael (Anna) Butler of Van Nuys, CA, and Daniel Butler of Costa Mesa, CA; many beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; a sister Rosemary Jones of Springfield, MO; and a brother Gerald Hendricks of Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Roy, who was born in Colorado and laid to rest in Joplin; her mother Dorothy, who was born in Kentucky and laid to rest in Dubuque; and a half brother, Joe Barnes, laid to rest in Columbus, KS.
