Obituary for Arlene C Bowman (DeFontaine)

Arlene C Bowman (DeFontaine)
Arlene C. Bowman, 86, of Dubuque died peacefully, Friday, May 6, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Private family services will be held.
Arlene was born August 9, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bartella) DeFontaine. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School. Upon graduation, she worked at the Battery Factory as secretary to the CEO. After leaving the Battery Factory, she devoted her life to her family.
Arlene married Roy Bowman in 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fillmore. He preceded her in death in 1991.
The grandkids will never forget the wonderful Christmases at grandma’s house; especially her wonderful ham sandwiches served with her fuzzy pink slippers on. She was a smart and witty grandmother who always said what was on her mind and taught all of her family what the word integrity meant. She was a strong and brave woman who always stood up for what she believed in and always put her family first. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was so courageous fighting through a hip replacement to return to her home. Arlene was a kind woman.
She was always worried more about everyone else and making their life easier rather than her own. She went without many times in her life so she could make others around her happy. She taught everyone around her what the meaning of family and love truly was.
She is now finally able to rest and no longer suffer. So many memories were made over 86 years. As she stated many times, "she had a good run." She will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts forever. She was a person the world needs more of and we were all blessed to be able to share life with her.
She is survived by her son, Craig (Linda) Bowman of Asbury; four grandchildren, Tracy (Dan) Gurdak, Tammy (Eric) Dupont, Joseph (Holly) Andresen and Tammy (Jeff) Neyens; great grandchildren, Rylan, Riley, Landon, Brianna, Evan, and Alex.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter and son in law, Sandra Lee and Robert Andresen; a brother, Joseph DeFontaine; and two sisters Margaret “Dis” Whitfield and Dorothy Kolar.
