Obituary for Leo A Link

Leo A. Link, 81, of Dubuque died peacefully at home on Friday, February 12, 2016 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corp League. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 8 pm at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy road where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Leo was born December 3, 1934 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Leo and Bernice (Stillmunkes) Link, Sr. After graduating from Loras Academy, Leo continued his education going to barber college in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Link’s Barber Shop for 56 years, retiring in 2008. Leo also served in the Naval Reserves.
He married Jeanne Benzer on November 19, 1955. He later married Patricia Mahoney on August 19, 2000 at Roseman Bridge in Winterset, Iowa.
Family came first with Leo and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards, was an avid sports fan, and was “king of the grill.” He was a member of Dubuque Elks Club #297, Dubuque Businessmen’s Association, and Dupaco Duplicate Bridge.
Leo was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Link; children, Nancy (Mike) Wagner, Linda (Scott) Glab, Tina (Ken Anderson) Link, Gregory (Gina) Link, Lisa Wood, and Diane Mahoney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jason Welsh, Jenny (Tony) Roussel, and Christina and Joey Wagner; Chad Cook and Taylor and Conner Glab; Tiffany (Nick Miller) McCarty and Steve and Jennifer Anderson; Austin and Rachel Link; and Colton and Madelyn Wood; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Cathey) Link; a sister, Jeanette (Richard) Carroll; and five nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Link.
