Sylvia  Westhoff (Boge)
Sylvia J. Westhoff, 88, of Dubuque passed away and met with the angels Friday, November 6, 2015 at Bethany Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m.
Sylvia was born November 29, 1926 in Farley, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Emma (Loecke) Boge. She married the love of her life, Don Westhoff, on May 18, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peosta. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1995.
Family was the most important thing in Sylvia’s life, and she was the best wife and mother anyone could ever ask for, and was voted mother of the year in 2003. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed camping, dancing and bowling. She also enjoyed embroidery and made everyone a special gift.
She is survived by seven children, Judy (Dave) Diefenthaler of Madison, Wisc., and Carol Westhoff, Ron (Pat) Westhoff, Linda (Jim) Schaetzle, Jim (Nancy) Westhoff, Kathy (Jerry) Fennel and Tom (Tammy) Westhoff, all of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Rita Koerperich of Dubuque; sisters in law, Vi Boge, Arlyce (Walter) Clapham and Janet Westhoff; brothers in law Bob (Sue) Westhoff and Jerry (Kathie) Westhoff; nieces and nepews; and a special family friend, Rev. Sue Cubbage.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Boge and brothers in law, Loras Koerperich and John “Junior” Westhoff.
