Sharon L. (Seville-Recker) Thies of Dubuque was called to Heaven to be with our Lord on Monday, November 2, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones at home.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Resurrection Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Hauer presiding. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Friday at Egelhof-Siegert Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road where a parish wake service will be held 7:30 p.m.
Sharon was born July 12, 1945, in Fort Madison, daughter of Gilbert and Dorothy (Fraise) Holt. She graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1963 and received her degree in English and Speech Arts from Truman State University in 1967. Sharon was devoted to her students and her love of teaching for 32 years in New Jersey, Colorado; Hempstead High School, Washington and Roosevelt Middle Schools in Dubuque and Beckman Jr/Sr High School in Dyersville. She received many honors throughout her career for her excellence in education and found great joy in her career, students and coworkers.
Helping others was Sharon’s mission in life. Her priorities in life were her family, her friends and many of her former students. She was a natural born caretaker, filled with compassion and always there to listen and lend a helping hand in any way she could. There was nothing she would not do for anyone, if it were humanly possible.
Those left behind to treasure her memory are her cherished daughters, Stacey (Keith) Welsh and Sara Seville; her beloved grandchildren, Julianna Welsh, Colin Welsh and Aidan Seville; her sister-in-law Judy (Gene) Holt all of Dubuque; nieces and nephews, Susan Holt and Nicholas Orslini of Gurnee, Il, Karin (Hilton) Hall and Alexandria and Lauren of Hawthorn Woods, Il, Thomas J. Holt of Kennewick, WA , and Bradley (Sheila) Pinnell and Christian, Caitlin and Issac of Iowa City; her many loving friends and her loyal little companion, Buddy .
Her dearly-loved mother, father, and brother, Thomas Holt; sister, Betty Pinnell and brother-in-law, Cecil Pinnell preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her grandchildren and their college educations.
