Marian R. Gehrig, 89, of Dubuque passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 11, 2015, with family by her side.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 - 6p.m., Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road where a wake service will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Marian was born on November 13, 1925 in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of George and Minnie (Meyer) Raker.
She graduated from Bayless Business College in Dubuque in 1944 and began working at American Trust & Savings Bank. She started as a secretary and over nearly 5 decades of employment she earned the appointment of personal banking officer eventually retiring her illustrious banking career in 1992 as second Vice President, managing the main floor and drive through services.
She married Robert W. Gehrig in 1947 in Dubuque. They enjoyed time with their children and grandchildren, as well as traveling across the United States. They were married 49 years before he preceded her in death in 1996.
Marian was a long-time member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering as a Eucharistic Minister and as a lector.
She also spent her free time volunteering at Stonehill Care Center and the Hope House. She was an adventurous spirit who loved traveling to many fascinating locations with the AmeriClub travel group. Additionally, every spring and summer she reveled in reaping the fruits of her labor from her glorious garden, of which she would share with many family, friends and neighbors.
Those whose lives were touched by Marian know she lived her life with the utmost grace and dignity. She was loyal and compassionate as a friend and mentor; courageous and patient in times of uncertainty, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who left a legacy as a role model of kindness and respect.
Surviving are her children, Jan (Michael) Filitti, of Clinton, IA., Mark (Sherry White) Gehrig, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Meg (Shannon Werb) Gehrig, of St. Paul, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Cathy Martin; 9 grandchildren, Wesley, William, Matthew Gehrig and Ashley Martin, Lisa Boyles and Jonathan (Kristin) Filitti, Jordan (Francesca) and Abby Gehrig, and Alexa Werb; 6 great- grandchildren, Brandon, Nicholas and Natalie Boyles, Maria and Dominic Filitti and Cade Gehrig.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffrey; and 3 brothers, Francis , Rev. Clarence J. and Edwin ( Mary Lea) Raker.
