Carol L. Lang, 75, of Dubuque died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Unity Point Health-Finley Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Carol was born in Iowa City on January 25, 1940 only child of Carl P Lang and Bonita G Lang Bradley. He attended Dubuque Schools and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, class of 1958.
After serving four years in the United States Navy, he returned to Dubuque and joined the workforce at John Deere, Dubuque, where he was a shop steward for UAW Local 94. He married Eleanor Kipp in 1962 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and they raised two boys, Jeff and Dennis. Carol became active in the Boy Scouts when the boys reached scouting age.
Carol also became active in a pool group that met every week for many years, playing in each other’s home.
After retiring from John Deere with nearly 40 years of service, Carol and Eleanor enjoyed camping and traveling to different places; meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones. They camped seasonally in Lanesboro, Minn. for the last nine years on the banks of the Root River. They also rode and supported riders on “RAGBRAI” for several years.
Carol’s retirement also brought an addition to the family as their puppy, Jillian. He also enjoyed his childrens' dogs and cats.
Carol is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eleanor, his two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Kim Eaker Lang of Owatonna, Minn and Dennis and his wife Sue Lang of Marion, IA. Aunt Maxine Penney of Spokane, Wash.; step brother Ronald Bradley and his children and step sister in law Anna Mae Bradley of Dubuque. He is also survived by numerous cousins and in laws.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, step father Roy Bradley, step sister Betty and her husband William Smith; step brother Robert Bradley; and niece Kim Graves.
In lieu of flowers, a Carol Lang Memorial Fund has been established.
