Obituary for Allan J. Fondell

Allan J. Fondell
Allan J. Fondell, 56, of Dubuque died Thursday, March 12, 2015 peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 15 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road, where visitation will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Allan was born December 17, 1958 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of James and Patricia Fondell.
He worked as an excavator for over 35 years, many of which were with Fondell Excavating. He took great pride in his work, and got a lot of personal satisfaction from doing it right.
He married his wife Lisa on July 16, 2005. They met in 2002 and had many adventures over the years, with Allan opening up to trying many new things in life; like parasailing, deep see fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and trying a million foods he swore he would never touch.
Allan enjoyed His Dallas Cowboys, golf, fishing, hunting, traveling, and time spent with friends and family
Allan dearly loved his daughter, Nichole, son in law Jeremy, and his two grandsons, Carter and Leo. They were the lights of his life. He dearly loved being "Grandpa". He could have had a dozen children, but never could have been more proud of anyone, than he was Nichole, not only in her accomplishments, but in the person she is.
Allan felt truly blessed in all of the important ways in life, the things money can never buy- like being a father, a grandparent, a husband; enjoying the love of family, and having the most amazing group of friends a person can be blessed with.
Lisa was so very proud of the bravery Allan showed on this journey with cancer; he never complained, and faced everything with more courage, than she has ever seen another human being display.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Fondell of Dubuque; a daughter, Nichole (Jeremy) Hall of Stratford, New Jersey and their children, Carter and Leo; his father, James Fondell of Dubuque; six siblings, James Fondell of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Mary Jane (Ed) Larson of Dubuque, Joann (Mike) Pregler of Dubuque, Pamala (Pete) Jones of Geneva, Ill., Mark (Sarah) Fondell of Dubuque and Tom (Jean) Fondell of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews, favorite cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother.

The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of support throughout this journey; from the fundraiser, to the endless deliveries of sweets for Al, to the daily newspapers for him to read, to the rides when Lisa had to work, the outings when Al was well enough, and a million other things we so appreciated. A special thank you to the amazing staff at Hospice of Dubuque for taking such great care of Allan. Lisa can't say enough about this organization and the wonderful things they do. Heartfelt Thanks to Al's nurse, Amy, for the loving care she gave him. Also, Thank YOU to Dr. Christine Holm at Medical Associates. She never looked at Allan as just a patient number, and truly cared for, and about, him as a person. We believe he was with us as long as he was because of her.
