Jean Ann Klaas, 91, of Dubuque died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Resurrection where visitation will be held Friday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Jean was born May 24, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of George and Marcella (Droessler) Kahle. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital Nurses Training, Milwaukee, Wisc. In 1943. On June 24, 1947, she married the love of her life, Urban Klaas at Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque. They enjoyed a wonderful 21 year marriage. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1968.
Jean worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals and nursing homes in Dubuque for 42 years, retiring in 1985. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and compassionate nurse. She was a nature lover who enjoyed all flowers and birds. She loved to garden and sew. Her faith and her church, Resurrection, were very important to her.
She is survived by seven children, Cheryl (Mike) Orndorf of Winchester, Calif., Bonnie (Don) Westemeier of Dubuque, Debra (Howard) Hymen of Palatine, Ill., Raymond (Diane) Klaas of Plano, Tex., Donna (Rick) Roeder of Dubuque, Herbert (Karen) Klaas of Santa Clara, Calif., and Darin (Kris) Klaas of Portland, Ore.; 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon Kahle, Bob (Joyce) Kahle, Don (Erm) Kahle, and; brother in law, Gibb Crippes; two sisters in law, Sally and Sandy Kahle.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Julie Marie in 2003, a son, Joseph Patrick in 1958; a sister, Eunice Crippes and two brothers, Jim and Marv Kahle.
The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
A Jean Klaas Memorial Fund has been established.
