Robert D Anderson – The Greatest Generation I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of one of the finest gentlemen I’ve had the privilege to know. There are few people I can truly say come close to the person of Jesus Christ on this earth; one would be Billy Graham, another would be a local prison ministry Deacon, a best friend of 39 years whom I recently eulogized, and Robert D Anderson. This would seem like an oxymoron for someone who had served his country as a tough Marine, played serious football, loved Notre Dame, successfully reared a large family, was an ethical businessman, & even had the nickname “hunk”; but it proves you can be multifaceted and still be a man of faith. Mr. Anderson had all the qualifications in the proper order: Love of God, Country, Family, Friends, etc. When that “pyramid” is in order, everything else seems to fall into place. That doesn’t mean life was a rose garden for him; what it means to me is what Robert D Anderson left behind that he spent years carefully crafting: HIS LEGACY. As outlined by his brief obituary, he was an overly- humble man. He was extremely ethical. He was so many things that in today’s world are lacking. I never heard a curse word, foul language nor did I ever hear anything off-color ever from Mr Anderson. He treated everyone with kindness and high regard, no matter what “position” you held. The Golden Rule was always evident. I especially noticed how he interacted with his daughters – with love and respect. He treated all women with dignity; the true measure of a man. One of Mr. Anderson’s closest colleague’s of 45 years (my partner) said: “A brief visit with Mr. A was like a retreat for the soul-one always came away refreshed and renewed.” What an inspiration he was to me and many, many others. I will always remember the wonderful smile he always greeted me with. Thank you for sharing your Dad and Grandfather. He will not be forgotten. Heartfelt condolences. Nancy Watson (& Soupy)
