Marlin Albert (Doc) Otto, 93, of 2700 Matthew John Drive, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died October 24, 2014.
In keeping with Marlin’s wishes there will be no public services or visitation. Interment will be at a later date in Eden Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Minnesota.The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road is assisting the family.
He was born July 12, 1921, to Albert and Ella (Schleimann) Otto on the family farm in Eden Township, Brown County, Minnesota.
Marlin graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minnesota, in 1943. Marlin joined the Navy and served as lieutenant on a mine sweeper during WWII. Later, he was recalled to the Naval Reserve during the Korean conflict.
Marlin met his wife, Wanda Drumm, in Yorktown, Virginia, while they were both serving in the Navy. They married on May 9, 1947, and had one son, Donald.
Marlin was employed by the Standard Oil Company (Amoco Oil, British Petroleum Oil) as Terminal Superintendent in Minnesota, Kansas, Dubuque and Bettendorf, Iowa. After he retired from Standard Oil, he worked for the Rock Island (Illinois) Arsenal.
Marlin enjoyed researching family genealogy, listening to “Big Band Orchestra” music, and caring for his Pontiac cars.
Marlin was preceded in death by wife, Wanda, and his parents.
Surviving are a son Donald (Deborah) Otto; grandchildren Valerie (Chris) Loewenberg and Elizabeth (Justin) Kuhle; and great-grand-children Lilly, Hayden and Gwenyth Loewenberg and Gunner, Harvey, and Norman Kuhle, all of Dubuque.
Marlin’s family would like to thank the Eagle Pointe and Hospice Teams and Dr. C. Stille and staff for their loving care of Marlin.
