Darlene R. "Dot" Koethe, 78, of Applewood III Apartments, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.
Her funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 12 at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 11983 John F. Kennedy Road. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Road and from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., Friday at the Funeral Home.
Darlene was born on November 2, 1935 the daughter of Aaron and Olga (Hammerand) Koethe.
She was employed at Lange Plastics, The University of Dubuque. Dot then owned and managed Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Shop for over 20 years.
After retirement Dot had the pleasure to become caretaker for her nieces Erin and Amanda; which she immensely enjoyed. This endeavor prompted her to start her own in-home child care. Throughout those years she assisted many working parents to raise their families; shaping their character and creating long-lasting “memories”. Each and every child has their own “special” story from time spent with “Dot”.
Surviving are her great –nieces, Erin Gustafson and Amanda Prado; brothers, Irvin (Lu) Koethe, Duane “Dewey” (Sarah) Koethe, and LeMar (Jennifer) Koethe; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Eldon (Irma) Koethe.
A Darlene Koethe memorial fund has been established.
