Obituary for Michael W Kactro

Michael W. Kactro, 92, of Bethany Home, died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Bethany Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014 at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post #6. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Church.
Michael was born March 21, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Leo and Rachel (Coohey) Kactro. He graduated from Loras Academy and Loras College. Michael served in the US Navy/Marines during WW II, serving as a lieutenant on the USS Core.
On June 12, 1947, Michael married Florence Hermann at the Church of the Nativity. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2014.
He retired from Coca Cola in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Michael enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family. The family always looked forward to Christmas woodworking projects.
He is survived by his children, Anne (Rick) Juergens of Decorah, Iowa, Mary (Joe) Trannel of East Dubuque, Ill., Mike (Heidi) Kactro of West Bend, Wisc., Barb (Bob) Larsen of Chicago, Ill., and Sue (Rick) Thibadeau of Dubuque, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ben (Steph) Trannel, Ryan (Robyn) Trannel, Alex Trannel, Gretchen (Tony) Sisco, Jennifer (Mike) Hoffman, Mike Larsen, Jill (Chris) Schulte, Jeff Thibadeau, Curtis, Kyle and Christopher Kactro; and nine great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death his parents and two sisters, Leona Rheault and Margaret Hanson.
A Michael Kactro Memorial Fund has been established.
The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
