Obituary for Donald J Hansen
Donald J. Hansen 90, of the Village Cooperative, Grand Meadow Dr., passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Holy Spirit Parish Holy Ghost Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. where a parish scripture wake service will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
Don was born on May 10, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John and Amanda (Thomas) Hansen. He married Shirley Breitbach on September 12, 1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Don worked for Interstate Power Company, became an agent for Metropolitan Life and later for State Farm Insurance and retired as a supervisor from John Deere Dubuque Works after 20 years of service. He was a long-time member of Holy Ghost parish and sang in a barber shop quartet for many years. Don also enjoyed photography and genealogy.
Surviving are his wife of over 65 years, Shirley of Dubuque; his children Jeffrey Hansen of Omaha, NE, Dirk (Tiffany) Hansen of San Diego, CA, Teresa (Richard) Watson of Allen, TX, Greg Hansen of Bloomington, MN and Paul Hansen of Dallas, TX; his brother John (Mary Ann) Hansen of Dubuque; his brothers and sisters-in-law Ann Kemp of Cedar Falls, IA, Mary Pink of Manchester, IA, Carol O'Brien and Betty Frommelt both of Dubuque, Paul (Fran) Breitbach of Winston Salem, NC, Jerry (Gail) Breitbach of Maquoketa, IA, Larry (Diane) Breitbach of Davenport, IA, Jeannie (Don) Kruse and Charles (Donna) Breitbach both of Dubuque, IA and Claire (Hugh) Gaston of Wisconsin Dells, WI.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Eichorn.
