Jackie was born September 17, 1926 in Dubuque, daughter of Arnold and Eva Ziegler.
She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1944, and married John Robert “Bob” Daykin in 1949. She worked outside the home for several years at Job Service of Iowa and was a member of Summit Congregational United Church of Christ, P.E.O. International, and too many card clubs to be listed on one page. She loved playing cards (duh), golfing, socializing with friends and family, and had a special love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed travel, especially to Arizona in the winter, and watching sports (including a trip at age 90 to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team play in the NIT).
She is survived by three sons, Rob (Laurie), of Dundee Ore., Jeff (Donna) of Falcon Heights, Minn., and Tom (Karen) of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; a daughter in law, Kim of Dubuque; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and two brothers, Arnie Ziegler of Gilbert, Ariz., and Tom Ziegler of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert “Bob” Daykin; a son, Steve Daykin; and a sister, Virginia “Ginny” Beckett.
Memorials may be made to Summit Congregational United Church of Christ and Hospice of Dubuque.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Hawkeye Care Center, Barb Ilten, and the Rev. Karen Candee of Summit Congregational United Church of Christ for their loving care.
