Daniel N. Roush, 72, of Dubuque died Monday, October 22, 2018. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Resurrection.
Dan was born November 17, 1945 in Lima, Ohio, son of Bernard and Hilda (Schumacher) Roush.
He graduated from Lima Senior High School in Lima, Ohio in 1963, Ohio State University in 1967 and received his master’s degree from Loras College. On February 7, 1970 he married Anne Cody at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church.
Dan had a real love and interest in kids. He thoroughly enjoyed his 33 years in education, including 13 years as principal at Fulton, 13 years as principal at Eisenhower and 3 years as principal at Marshall. He was delighted when former students recognized him. After his retirement from the Dubuque Community Schools, in 2001, he continued to work in educational environment at NICC.
Dan loved golf and was a member of Thunder Hills Country Club. He also liked spending time in Florida, where he was a member of Worthington Country Club for 14 years. As much as the game of golf, he enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends on the course. He recorded a total of 8 holes in one.
Dan enjoyed people and could carry on a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed gathering in his driveway with people to visit. He was happy to be outside feeding the birds.
Dan was a member of Resurrection Church where he was on the RCIA team. He also volunteered with DuRide and loved helping Jim in his resale shop.
He was especially proud of his sons and their families. He looked forward to all of his grandsons’ activities. He was also proud to be an Ohio State alum and avid Buckeye fan.
Dan is survived by his wife Anne Roush of Dubuque; two sons, Ben (Susie) and Doug (Kim) Roush, both of Dubuque; and five grandsons, Cody, Maclaine, Jacob, Spencer and Teagan Roush.
He was also survived by a sister-in-law, Missy Roush of Lima, Ohio; brother-in-law John Cody of Arlington Heights and brother-in-law Dick (Sharon) Cody of Dubuque and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Steve Roush and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irma and Jack Cody.
Dan bravely accepted many health issues and we are so blessed to have had him for 17 more years after his “Whipple” surgery in 2001.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque or a charity of your choice.
