Obituary for Mark D Oberhoffer
Mark D. Oberhoffer 64, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marsha Wilfong officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Centralia, Iowa. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mark was born on August 5, 1953 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Carl and Marilyn (Aliesch) Oberhoffer. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 1972. On August 22, 1975, Mark married Peg McGovern at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. His career in law enforcement spanned 33 years before his retirement in 2008 from the Dubuque County Sherriff’s Department. Mark was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a fire arms instructor for Dubuque County and volunteered as a hunter safety instructor. Mark was a member of the Dubuque Soccer Alliance Executive board, the Kiwanis Club and Masonic Temple Metropolitan 49.
Surviving are his wife, Peg of Dubuque, IA; his children David (Trisha) Oberhoffer of Adel, IA, Dana (Casey) Cooney of North Liberty, IA and Ryan (Kristi) Oberhoffer of Dubuque, IA; his grandchildren Caleb, Carson and Joshua Oberhoffer, Keira Cooney, Owen and Theo Oberhoffer; his brothers Jeff (fiancé’ Lori Cray) Oberhoffer and Jerry (Pat) Oberhoffer both of Asbury, IA; his sister-in-law Kay Oberhoffer of Dubuque, IA; his in-laws Fred McGovern, James (Susan) McGovern, Ann (Loren) Dietrich, Mark McGovern, Kevin (Patty) McGovern, Loretta McGovern, Maureen (Rich) Smith, Patty (Cal) Zumbach, Michele (Ron) Bussan, Kelle (Jerry) Graham and Kristin (Dan) Doer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Michael and sister-in-law Paula Oberhoffer; and his father and mother-in-law Mark & Dorothy McGovern.
A Mark Oberhoffer memorial fund has been established.
