Obituary for John R McCorkle

John R  McCorkle
John R. McCorkle, aged 88, of Dubuque, Iowa, died peacefully in the Lord surrounded by family, Tuesday, May 15th, 2018 at Finley Hospital.
John was born February 21, 1930 in Pipestone, MN. On August 28, 1949, John married his high school sweetheart Doris Schlapkohl in Pipestone. John served in the Korean War and then attended the South Dakota School of Mines on the GI bill where he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. John and Doris then moved to Dubuque, Iowa with their three small girls, to begin his long and loyal career with John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works. John and family were charter members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, involved in church activities his entire life. He led a full and faithful life enjoying church, camping, golfing, travel with Friendship Force, and creating works of stain-glassed.
John is survived by his wife Doris of 68 years, daughters Carene (Ray) Baslee of Texas, Denise (Daryl) Seaman of Colorado, and Renee (Dale) Lutzen of Missouri; grandchildren Mallory (Devin) McDonald, Cara (Michael) Weaver, Hannah (Alan) Waulet, Gregory (Christa) Seaman, Laura (Rev. Jeremy) Richert, Kate Elahi, and Kianna (Tony) Elahi-Gedwillo; and great-grandchildren Jane and Adam Seaman.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 18th at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2145 Kennedy Road, Dubuque, Iowa from 4 – 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. preceding the service.
Funeral service is Saturday May 19th, 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held at Linwood Cemetery after lunch.
The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family thanks Rev. Dr. Kristian Kincaid, Rev. Jesse Cearlock, and their many friends and family who have shared their love and concern. John will be missed by all, yet we rejoice in the knowledge he is safe in Christ’s arms.
