Mary S  Teeling (Mennig)
Mary S. Teeling 88, peacefully passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. where a parish scripture wake service will be recited at 3:30.

Mary was born on September 28, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Healey) Mennig. She graduated from St. Columbkille high school and at the age of 18, began her 65 year career in the insurance profession. She spent the majority of her working years with MP Hogan Insurance Agency and ended her career with DB&T and Sheehan Insurance Agency.

On September 2, 1950, Mary married Ralph L. Teeling at St. Raphael Cathedral. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2002.

Mary was a 75 year member of St. Columbkille parish, past president of Insurance Women of Dubuque and member of the Dominican Laity. She enjoyed spending time with her children and many grandchildren. Her love for learning and travel never ceased.

Surviving are her children Catherine (Robert) Breitbach of Dubuque, IA, Mary (Michael) Berendes of Hartland, WI, Joseph (Leslie) Teeling of Waukee, IA, Thomas (Barbara) Teeling of Wesley Chapel, FL and John Teeling of Paso Robles, CA; her son-in-law, James Overman of Lisbon, IA; her 24 grandchildren Matthew, Timothy, Jacob, Kathleen, Daniel and Elizabeth Overman, Joshua, Nathaniel, Jessica, Gretchen, Hans and Caleb Breitbach, Michael, Brianna, Mariah and Sean Berendes, Joseph, Benjamin, Alexander, Jackson and Anne Teeling and Luke, Nicholas, and Ashlie Teeling; 26 great grandchildren; also surviving is her maid of honor and cousin, Charlotte Powers of Davenport, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughter Suzanne; grandchildren John David and Mark Overman; brothers Leonard, Joseph, George and Alan “Ducky” and her sister, Rosadel.

The family would like to thank all her caregivers, especially Pat, Shirlee and her beloved granddaughter, Gretchen.

Her gentle spirit, her love for Jesus Christ, and her love and compassion for everyone will remain with us forever.

Memorials may be given to St. Columbkille Church.
