Margaret A. Peter, 89, of Dubuque died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Ennoble Manor. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 pm at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Margaret was born February 2, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Cecil and Helen (Grant) Cripe. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. On May 10, 1950 she married Donald J. Peter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1999.
She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she was involved with its Rosary Society, St. Peter’s Circle and Prayer Line. She was also a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed bird watching, Bingo, nature and writing poetry.
She is survived by six children, Lee (Rick Merkle) Peterson of Urbandale, IA, Mark (Shirley) Peter of Oregon, WI, Laurie (Tim) Leibold of Asbury, Lynn (Mike O’Shea) Schroeder of Dubuque, Tony Peter and John Peter; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with one on the way, and a great-great grandchild on the way.
She was also preceded in death by a son in law, Steve Peterson; three brothers, Lawrence, James and Grant Cripe; one sister, Grace Thomas, and one grandson, Kelly John Peter and a great grandson, Eric Kerkenbush.
A Margaret Peter Memorial Fund has been established.
