Obituary for Dorothy J Tigges (Leibold)

Dorothy J. Tigges 82, passed away Tuesday April 25, 2017, surrounded by her loving children. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with the Rev. Hilary Aidoo officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. where a parish scripture wake service will be recited at 3:00 p.m.

Dorothy was born on May 27, 1934 in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Nicholas and Marie (Simon) Merfeld. She graduated from St. Anthony School in 1949. She married Martin Tigges on September 6, 1952 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2006.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Most important to her was being a lifelong homemaker and always being there to care for and support her family’s needs. Dorothy waitressed at various restaurants in Dubuque. She was a seamstress, enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning and playing cards and bingo.

Surviving are her children Randy (Ann) Tigges of Maquoketa, IA, Joan (Terry) Leibold of Dubuque, IA, Patty (Jim) Even of Cascade, IA and Steve (Teri) Tigges of Port Byron, IL; her grandchildren Gwenn Snook, Matthew (Shana) Tigges, Brian (Tiffany) Leibold, Keith (Samantha) Leibold, Jeffrey (Tracy) Leibold, Tina (Steve) Clemmons, Brenda (Jaime) Phelps, Eric (Jenny) Even, Alisha (Cody) Kauffman, Jessica (Brad) Meier and Trevor Tigges; her great grandchildren Caleb, Denver and Emmi Snook, Gavin, Olivia, Brady, Madelynn, Allyson, Carter and Stephanie Leibold, Broderick and Sullivan Clemmons, Aidan and Malin Phelps, Tucker and Baby Meier (due in July), Mason Kauffman, Braxton and Aubrey Tigges. She is also survived by siblings Millie (Randy) Dolter, Bill (Pat) Merfeld, Eldon (Connie) Merfeld, Shirley Smith, Diane (Don) Schemmel, Carol Miller, David (Sheila) Merfeld, sister in law Adele Merfeld and brother in law Jerome Tigges.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Martin; her son Duane; infant granddaughter Rachel Tigges, brothers Bernard Merfeld, Merlin (Mary) Merfeld, Larry Merfeld, and brothers and sisters in law Sue Merfeld, Bill Smith, Francis and Bernard (Karen) Tigges, Sister Mary Rita Tigges OSF, and Hazel Tigges.

In lieu of flowers a Dorothy J. Tigges Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to family and friends for their love and support, and the doctors and nursing staffs at Tri-State Dialysis and the 3rd floor nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center.
