Double Decker

On my last trip to Dubuque from Ca, for the reunion, Dave, Jack and I shared a booth at the gathering and recounted baseball stories from our early days.  Of course they occurred at Loras College under the watchful eye of the Double Decker Hills.  Jack was the most passionate player (with me a close whiney second) and when uncle Tom or Bob "graciously" dropped a short fly ball or allowed a younger cousin to get around the bases, Jack and I would go ballistic. We'd scream and throw our gloves and carry on - to the delight of our uncles and Cousin Dave. The memory I have of those days is Dave laughing so hard about our misdirected passion.  It is illustrative of his good nature and love for his cousins and all sports.  He truly didn't care about the score or the fact that Tom, Bob or Leo allowed someone to score.  He loved his brothers and sisters and loved being outside playing ANY game.

I already miss Bluie.  His laugh, and passion, and our recently renewed friendship.  God speed Dave....
