Obituary for David L Anderson

David L Anderson
The Rev. David L. Anderson, 85, Visitation Pastor at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church was called to his eternal home Tuesday, January 3, 2017. He died at Mercy Medical Center, trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ who promised him, and all believers: “I go to prepare a place for you; and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that I am, there you may be also, (John 14:2,3).

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2145 John F. Kennedy Road with the Pastors Kristian Kincaid and Jesse Cearlock officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Rev. Anderson was born August 15, 1931, in Isle, Minnesota, son of Gilbert and Elvera (Hemerick) Anderson. He attended school through January of his sophomore year in Worthington, Minn., at which time the family moved near Lake George, Minn. He graduated from La Porte High School in 1949.

Following four years in the Air Force Security Service, he returned home and was confirmed as an adult in Trinity Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) in Lake George. He then fell in love with Arla Moberg, and they were married on June 5, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with twin sons and a daughter.

He attended Bemidji State Teachers College and later Concordia Theological Seminary (then located in Springfield, Ill.), graduating in May, 1962. He served congregations in Cincinnati, Ohio; Hillsboro, Indiana; Dubuque, Iowa; and Crookston-Eldred, Minnesota. During the course of his ministry, he held several District and Synodical offices. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Dubuque where he served as Visitation Pastor.

He is survived by a son, Thomas of Clermont, Florida; a daughter, Krista, of Dubuque; eight grandchildren, Madi (Mike) Meller of Russelville, Missouri, Zach Anderson of Jefferson City, Missour, Shakina (Sean) Bosveld and Christian Anderson, both of Dubuque; Melissa Anderson of St. Paul, Minn., Jennifer and Megan Anderson, both of Clermont and Cheyenne Fransen of Fridley, Minn.; and three great-grandchildren, Sophie McIntyre, and Braedynn and Ashton Bosveld, all of Dubuque.

He is also survived by two sisters, Vera (Jim) Bauman of Wilson Creek, Washington and Ann Schiller of Wyoming, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Arla; a son, Joel; three babies who died as a result of miscarriages; and three brothers, John, Donald and Richard “Dick” Anderson.

Pastor Anderson requested that this poem, written by his wife, and altered slightly, be included as their final witness to their relatives, friends and neighbors.

Born with Adam’s sin within us,
(Did our own with great aplomb),
God in love chose us to love Him,
Saved us from our path of Doom.

From eternity He knew us,
Saw no good but loved us still,
Let our ignorance direct us,
Let us have our own free will.

Knew we needed One to save us,
Since perfection was the goal,
Jesus came and lived perfection;
Gave His life to save our souls.

The exchange of our corruption,
For His sinless, perfect life,
And His paying for our sins,
With His dying and His strife.

Are the truths that held us closely,
As we faced our death on earth,
Knowing we would be in heaven,
Since He gave us a new birth.

The family would like to thank the pastors and members of Our Redeemer for their love and support.
