Obituary for Susan C Minger (Schultz)

Susan Cecelia Minger, 69, of Dubuque, passed away, Friday, October 14, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, October 22 at Springville Presbyterian Church in Springville, Iowa. Rev. Dr. Catherine Quehl- Engel and Monsignor Jim Miller will officiate. Friends may greet the family from 2-4 p.m., prior to the service at the church.

Susan was born on August 14, 1947 in Dubuque to Robert & Phyllis (Wessel) Schultz. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and later from Cornell College in 1986. She was employed as the Assistant Director of Institutional Research at Cornell until her retirement in 2008.

She loved traveling abroad and learning about other cultures. Susan had a love for flowers, reading, animals, and watching sports. Go Cubs! She was a Master Gardener and a member of the Cedar Valley Iris and Day Lily Society. She was an avid volunteer, lending her time at CASA and the Community Health Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids.

Most importantly, Susan loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their various activities.

Susan is survived by her children, M. Jeffery (Sharon) Minger of Anamosa, IA, Benjamin (Gail) Minger of Dubuque, and Sarah (Alan) Horak of Springville, IA; grandchildren Jesina and Kalli Minger, Isaac and Laney Minger, and Emily Horak; brothers Robert “Buck” (Sheila) Schultz and Donald (Bette) Schultz both of Dubuque; nephew and niece Zach Schultz and Chenelle Bechen; and her Great Aunt Colletta Schultz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson Mitchell Horak.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later donation to Susan’s favorite charities.
