Peter J. "Pete" Eisbach 72, of Dubuque, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Joseph Hauer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd., where the American Legion Post # 6 of Dubuque will conduct a Past Commanders ceremony at 4:30. A Resurrection parish scripture wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Pete was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 4, 1943 the son of Peter and Ramona (Corpstein) Eisbach. He graduated from Malcom Price Lab School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966, including a tour in Viet Nam where he was exposed and subsequently affected by Agent Orange.
On November 24, 1966, Pete married Nancy Noel at the Church of the Nativity. He was employed at the Dubuque Packing Company/FDL Foods for 28 years. After the closure of the packing company, at the age of 56, he attended a two year program at Southwestern Technical College where he received a degree in Culinary and Culinary Management. Pete worked at several restaurants in Dubuque and was lastly employed at the Grand Harbor Resort before medically retiring after a long illness. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's parish in Dubuque for many years where he ushered, was a member of the school board and parish council and co-chair of the parish festival.
After joining Resurrection parish, he became active in CEW parish weekends and events. Pete was a Eucharistic Minister to persons with disabilities and an usher. He also helped in the school lunch program for a few years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 19 years and achieved many of the highest honors. Pete was truly dedicated to the scouting programs and helped many scouts and adult scouters over the years. His passion was being an active member of the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque, especially being a part of the military funeral detail. Pete served several positions in the Legion and was past Post Commander. He also received a well-deserved Quilt of Valor. Pete enjoyed collecting Santa Claus figurines.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy of Dubuque; his daughters, Jennie (Mark) Dalsing of Dubuque and their children Benjamin and Emilie; Julie (Bill) Black of Farley, IA and their children Nicholas Brecht (fiancé Trista Tabor), Aidan and Liam Black; Tina (Dale) Berning of Hazel Green, WI and their children Nathan Peter and Natalie; his sister, Carol (Robert) Taft of Albia, IA; sisters-in-law, Pat Eisbach of North Carolina and Linda (Larry) VanNatta of Dubuque; brother-in-law, Gary (Betty) Noel of Tennessee; special cousin/brother, Bill (Dianne) Zwack of Dubuque; and nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edmund Eisbach; a niece, Dawn Eisbach; a nephew, Tony VanNatta; and his mother and father-in-law, Charles and Florence Noel.
A Peter J. Eisbach memorial fund has been established.
The Eisbach family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dubuque Internal Medicine and the VA Clinic for their ongoing care and concern the past several years, and the Dubuque 911 Center, Police Department and Fire Department for their compassion when the Eisbach family needed them on Sunday.
