Obituary for Sr. Ruth Jackson (Jackson)

Sr. Ruth Jackson, S.V.M. 74, of the Visitation Convent, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April, 1, 2016 at St. Raphael's Cathedral with Rev. John Haugen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Cathedral where a scripture wake service will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Cynthia Kay Jackson was born on December 5, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Kermit B. and Ruth (Meyer) Jackson. She graduated from the Academy of The Visitation, received her bachelor degree in Classical Languages and Education from Clarke University and her Masters of Arts degree in Religious Education from Boston College. Sister Ruth was a teacher at Nativity Elementary School in Dubuque, liturgist at St. Michael's Parish in Galena, IL and liturgist at St. Raphael's Cathedral. Sister was also a member of the Archdiocesan Art and Environment Commission. She received the PRO ECCLESIA et PONTIFICE medal in 2004.
Surviving are a brother, Kermit R. (Patty) Jackson of Dubuque and a sister, Sara Coe Kuhl of Woodridge, IL; 11 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews and her Sisters of the Visitation, whom she shared life for 56 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Thomas; a nephew, Christopher and a great niece, Hailie Coe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sisters of the Visitation, Sisters of the Presentation or a charity of your choice.
