Emmett J. Healey

Emmett T. Healey, 91, of Bethany Home, formerly of 2369 Rhomberg Ave., died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Bethany Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 3:30 p.m.

He was born on July 10, 1918, in rural Dubuque County, son of Thomas and Mary (Fitzgibbons) Healey.

He married Lucille Dague on Feb. 25, 1943; she preceded him in death. He later married Mildred Leifker on April 29, 1995.

In his early years, Emmett was involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked for the Savanna Army Depot and Caradco, Dubuque. He later was employed with the Chicago Great Western Railroad as a station agent, retiring with more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and the Railroad Telegrapher's Union.

Emmett enjoyed carpentry, music, dancing, socializing and was a great tinkerer of cars, back when they could be tinkered.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred, of Dubuque; his children, Francis (Kayla) Healey, of Durango, Iowa, Thomas (Mary Ann) Healey, of Dubuque, Ronald Healey, of Durango, Iowa, Joseph and Patrick Healey, both of Dubuque, Dale (Kim) Healey, of Muscatine, Iowa, and Mary Lou (Lynn) Meier, of East Dubuque, Ill.; his stepchildren, David (Barbara) Leifker, of Hazel Green, Wis., Mike (Karen) Leifker, of Minot, N.D., and Christine Leifker, of Topeka, Kan.; 28 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Connie Marie; a brother, Edmund; and a sister, Thelma Potter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Emmett Healey Memorial Fund.
