Rita M. Dougherty, 90, of Dubuque passed away on Monday, September 3, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, September 8th at the Church of the Resurrection. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Friday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road.
Rita was born on May 22, 1928 in Adrian, Minnesota, the daughter of Andrew and Rose (Suedbeck) Mensen. She married Francis "Fritz" Dougherty on October 3,1949 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2013 after 64 years of marriage.
Rita was employed as a sales associate at K-Mart for many years. She enjoyed boating, fishing and camping with her husband, and sewing and crocheting. She was the most loving and giving mother and grandmother and kindest person to everyone she met. She put others first before herself.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Diane) Dougherty, Rick (Jan) Dougherty, Jeff (Tina) Dougherty, Ann (John) Hearn, Lisa Westland, all of Dubuque, and Todd (Diana) Dougherty of Brodhead, WI; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter “Baby Ann”, 8 sisters and 2 brothers, and son-in-law, Tim Westland.
In Lieu of flowers a Rita M. Dougherty Memorial Fund has been established.
We would like to thank family and friends who sent a kind note or card and took the time to visit and support our Mom.
