Obituary for Robert Bowers

Robert P. “Bob” Bowers, 96 and 8/12, of Dubuque died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Bethany Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grand View United Methodist Church where visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Bob was born October 19, 1921 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the first son of Clifford L. and Myra V. (Power) Bowers. He started school at rural Liberty Ridge near Lancaster, Wisc. His family later moved to Montfort, Wisc., where he completed grade and high school.
After spending two and a half years at Platteville Teachers College he was drafted into the Army. He served in the Artillery in the European Theater of operations, participating in five major battles including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes (“Battle of the Bulge”), Rhineland and Central Europe.
After thee years of Army service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with an Electrical Engineering Degree in October of 1947. He married Ardys L. Clifton on October 12, 1947 at Montfort, Wisc. One week later they moved to Dubuque, Iowa where he was employed at Interstate Power Co. for 39 years, attaining the position, Manager of Industrial Sales. He was a member of Grand View United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #125 (Past Master), High Twelve, and Clinton Scottish Rites Bodies 32nd degree KCCH.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ardys; three sons, Colby (Darlene) Bowers of Peosta, Cary (Debra) Bowers of Vadnais Heights, Minn. and Craig (Nancy) Bowers of West Bend, Wisc.; a daughter, Ann Christensen of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren, Tim Bowers, Ken (Lisa) Bowers, Jerilyn Bowers, Tiffany (Jon) Keeth; Megan (Michael) Mulligan; Kailee (Brandon) Rehkamp; Craig (Emily) Graves and Kathryn (Omar) Madrid; and ten great grandchildren, Madeline, Collin and Kiera Bowers; Maxwell and Macie Keeth; Axel and Naya Madrid; Finn and Kellen Mulligan; and Aubrey Rehkamp.
He is also survived by a sister, Mary Jane Burda of Flossmoor, Ill.; and a sister in law, Patricia Bowers of Madison, Wisc.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clifford W. Bowers and a sister and brother in law, Maryellen and Ron Barbian.
