Obituary for Carol Mae Jones (Jones)
Carol Mae Jones, 75, of Dubuque, IA, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. with her two loving sons close by. She courageously fought a long battle with lung cancer. Private family services are being held for immediate family and close friends on Monday March 12, 2018 burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery on Tuesday March 13, 2018 .
Carol was born November 3, 1942 in Dubuque the daughter of Lyman and Violet (Gratton) Jones. She graduated from Senior High School in 1961. Carol was a Jehovah’s Witness, and attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. She was baptized in 1996.
She endured in her faith until the end. Carol dearly loved her family members, and many friends. She was so appreciative of all who helped her during her illness. Carol enjoyed walks, gardening, keeping the house neat, visiting with friends and family, reading the bible, and singing kingdom songs.
She worked as a retail clerk for many years before retiring. Carol was a loving, giving, wonderful and supportive mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her sons Samuel Scott McCaughey III of Dubuque, and Mark W. McCaughey of Galena, IL; Two Grandchildren Sara McCaughey of Dubuque, and Danielle (Ben) Jenson of Dallas, TX; Four Great Grandchildren Tyshawn, Benjamin, Whitni, and Dustin; Four Sisters Kay (Gerry) Greenwood of Dubuque, Sandy (Gary) Wellborn of Otter Creek, IA, Jane (Jerry) Gilbert of Two Harbors, MN, and Karen Rans of Dubuque; One Brother Allan (Lois) Jones of Winchester, TN.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gary Jones, and her Brother-in-law Virgil Rans.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque for their kind care and friendship given to Carol, especially Edna, Julie, and Nichole.
