William “Bill” Eichman Sr., 88, of Dubuque died Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Luther Manor. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 pm at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2025 Jackson Street on Monday at 10:00 a.m., with visitation from 9 to 9:45. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Bill was born August 7, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Martin and Louetta (Kaufman) Eichman. Bill was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church where he remained a life-long member.
He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1947 and served in the United States Marine Corp.
He married Janaan Hoefflin on August 16, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2006.
He worked at and was co-owner of Eichman Electric and was a member of IBEW Local 704 for 67 years.
He was a member of the Dubuque Rifle and Pistol Club for over 50 years. He was a long-term volunteer and former board member of the Dubuque County Fair Association. He was also the first scoutmaster of St. Paul’s Boy Scout Troop 48.
Bill enjoyed recreation on and sights of and the beautiful Mississippi River. He enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and interests through the decades. He was a great father and role model.
His is survived by four children, William (Julia) Eichman Jr. of Neosho, MO; Bruce (Choon) Eichman of Beijing, China; Nancy (John) Morgan of West Des Moines and Diane (Mike) Langner of Ankeny; six grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and a growing number of greats.
He is also survived by a brother, Robert (Damaris) Eichman of Dubuque; sister, Carolyn Mastores of Picayune, MS; brother in law, Gene (Lorna) Hoefflin of Dubuque and 11 nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; toddler brother Martin; brothers-in-law, James Mastores and Louis Hoefflin; sister-in-law, Leone Hoefflin and nephew, David Hoefflin.
