Helen was born September 22, 1923, in Dexter, IA, the daughter of Tom and Stella (Graham) Warren. She grew up during the Depression, attending school in several Iowa towns before graduating from Cedar Falls High School in 1942. She then worked at the Viking Pump Company where she met Kenneth Beatty. They were married November 13, 1943, in Quantico, VA, and settled in Cedar Falls after his military service.

Following Kenneth’s death on January 12, 1970, Helen worked as a secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls before retiring and moving to Dubuque. She spent her most recent years knitting hundreds of stocking caps and mittens for needy children.

Helen is survived by her two children: Kennie (Gary) Harris of Peosta and Kevin (Lisa) Beatty of Dubuque; five grandchildren: Ellen (Tim) Steffen of Peosta, Drew (Rachel) Harris of Fort Worth (TX), Neil Harris of Chicago, Erin (Robert) Daughters of Dubuque, and Gwen (Ryan) Werner of Cuba City; and seven great-grandchildren: Max, Carley, Josie and Will Steffen, and Grant, Ben and Gracie Harris.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings.
