Gerald Melvin  Liddle
Gerald M. Liddle 93, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa formerly of Dubuque, Iowa passed away Sunday October 22, 2017 at Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 26, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church 2215 Windsor Avenue. A visitation will be held prior to the funeral mass from 9:00-10:45 at the church.
Gerald was born on June 16, 1924 in East Dubuque, IL the son of Robert and Marie (Splinter) Liddle. Gerald graduated from St. Columbkille’s in 1942, shortly after graduating Gerald joined the army where he spent time in Italy, and Africa during world war 2. On June 21,1944 Gerald received the purple heart award for being wounded in combat. On October 19, 1946 Gerald married Dorothy Kuch at Sacred Heart Church. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2014. Gerald was employed at Farley & Loetscher mfg. co, also employed at St. Regis Paper Co., Georgia Pacific Paper Co., and International Paper Co. Gerald was actively involved with the Sacred Heart Church and the church community. Gerald would love to volunteer to usher, or work fall festivals and other activities within the church.
He is survived by his two sons Jerry (Judy) Liddle Jr., of Newburgh, Ind., and Terry (Sharon) Liddle, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister Kay Jackoniski, of East Dubuque seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Liddle, and his parents Robert and Marie Liddle.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque.
The family would like to thank Sunset Park Place in Dubuque, Heritage Specialty Care in Cedar Rapids, and Gerald’s Niece Connie Conzett for their support and love throughout the years.
