Lowell J. “L.J.” Meyer 95, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Church of The Nativity. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October24, 2017 at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road.
L.J. was born on March 9, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Augustine and Estella (Manahl) Meyer. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and the Bayless Business College. L.J. was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. On April 26, 1943, he married Mary Agnes Kretschmer at Nativity Church. Upon returning from the Army, LJ worked for Socony-Mobil Oil Co. for 18 years before he began his career at Kretschmer-Tredway Co. L.J. started his career at Kretschmer Tredway as treasurer and retired at the age of 70 as president and CEO. He was a member of Nativity parish since 1943 and enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, ballroom dancing, barbequing and relaxing at his summer home in Bellevue.

Surviving are his wife Mary Agnes of Dubuque; his children Mark (Jenny Smith) Meyer, Maggie Hoffman, Ted Meyer, David “Spider” (Joan) Meyer, Steven (Sally) Meyer and Tom (Codi) Meyer all of Dubuque, IA; his daughters-in-law Beverly Meyer of Madison, AL and Rose Meyer of North Liberty, IA; his sisters-in-law Elizabeth Meyer of Port Ludlow, WA, Susan Meyer of Dubuque, IA, Margaret Schmitz of St. Paul, MN; and Barb Kretschmer of Vero Beack, Fl; also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 3 sons, Jeff, Doug, and Rick and his son-in-law Dave Hoffman.

A L.J. Meyer memorial fund has been established.
