Douglas G. Brown, 85, of Dubuque, died Monday, Oct 2, 2017. A funeral service will be held 7:30 pm Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be held Thursday from 4:30 pm until time of service. Burial will be in Mt. Oliver Cemetery.
Douglas was born January 7, 1932 in Davenport, son of Dr. Douglas and Ilo (Gifford) Brown.
After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School, Douglas attended the University of Iowa for a year and a half, before joining the US Army. Upon his discharge from the Army, he married Joanne Lee, and they returned to the University of Iowa to continue their studies.
Douglas retired from John Deere Dubuque Works in 1986. He and Joanne enjoyed spending the winters in Corpus Christi, Texas for the past 25 years. He also enjoyed sailing and golfing.
Douglas was active in AA for over 40 years, helping hundreds of people with their sobriety.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Dubuque; five children, Michael D. (Beth) Brown of Davenport, Douglas L. Brown of West Des Moines, Iowa, Patricia A. (Dr. Tom) Kelly of
Genoa, Nev., Mary E. (David) Hammer of Morrison, Colo., and David G. Brown of Dubuque; and six grandchildren, Dr. Nicholas Brown, Emily (Andy) Goodell and Matthew Brown; Aaron (Jana) Brown; and Max and Sam Hammer.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven G. Brown in 2003.
