Obituary for Janet M Burnes (Folsom)

Janet M. Burnes, 78, of Dubuque died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Sunnycrest Manor due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road where visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 7 pm with a prayer service at 6 pm. Entombment will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Janet was born July 15, 1939 in Dubuque, daughter of Thomas and Mildred (Hedrick) Folsom. She attended Jefferson Junior High School and Dubuque Senior High.
Janet was a selfless, hardworking, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved the life of farming and all that it entails; including gardening, cooking, baking, and canning.
Her compassion for people was endless and her warm smile was contagious. She always had a place in her home for someone who needed it. Along with her compassion, she also had a playful, fun loving nature about her.
Christmas time was her favorite time of the year and what brought her great joy was decorating and spending time with family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Calvin “Cal” Burnes of Dubuque; six children, Tim (Lisa) Burnes of Durango, Debbie (Ted) Peterson of Davenport, Steve (Lori) Burnes of Dubuque, Tammy (Joe) Henry of Dubuque, Michele (DeAnn) Burnes of Solon, and Lisa Burnes-Smith of Dubuque; 14 grandchildren, Sandy (Brian) Mostaert, Lynn (Aaron) Rasmussen, Tony (Jacqueline) Burnes, and Jesse (fiancé Brittany Feldberg) Burnes; Brandon (Megan) Peterson and Sara (Ryan) Tilkens; Amanda (Adam) Hefel and Erik, Alex and Katie Burnes; Justin (Amy) and Jeff (Kristy) Henry; and Cassie (Joe) Lyons and Jake Smith; 19 great grandchildren, Samantha, Gabby, Gavin, Tyler, Jace, Emma and Logan; Aaron, Kylie and Blake; Colin, Karleigh, Alex Jr., Clayton and Jack; and Mason, Madison, Alaina and Claire.
She is also survived by a sister, Sharon Patterson; brother in law, Bob Hulburt and brothers in law, Gene and Ronald Howell and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred; step father, Charles “Herbert” Berry; a sister, Judith Hulburt, brother in law, Doug Patterson and mother in law, Margaret Howell.
