Nora Dorothea Staack Artus, 101, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 13at St. Peter Lutheran Church, where friends may call from 9:30-11:15 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road is in charge of the arrangements.
Nora Dorothea Staack Artus was born July 31, 1915, in Farmersburg, Iowa. Born to William and Hattie (Rieckhof) Staack, Nora grew up in Clayton Center, Iowa, and worked in her father's grocery store. Following the death of her father in 1937, Nora and her mother moved to Dubuque.
During World War 2, Nora worked as a riveter at Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company in Buffalo, NY. After the war, Nora returned to Dubuque and worked at Iowa Egg Products Company and Caradco. She married Donald (Ducky) Artus and they enjoyed retirement years in Las Vegas, NV, until Don's death in 1975. After his death, she moved back to Dubuque.
Nora enjoyed sewing and needlework. She made countless afghans. dish cloths, and doilies for family and friends. Nora was a long-time volunteer at Finley Hospital and Luther Manor. She made and donated over 10,000 rattles used to help bond mothers-to-be with their unborn child.
Nora loved music and dancing. She was a member of the Dubuque song and dance group, the Flora Doras, for many years. Nora was a member of Dubuque Packer Pals.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters- Marie Wilke and Wilma Hense, and two stepsons Loren & Wayne Artus, her brother-in-laws Eldon Wilke, Fran Hense and Merlin Artus. Nora is survived by her son Dwight Artus of Dubuque, one grandson, four step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Betty Artus and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Luther Manor.
