Obituary for Delbert O Williams

Dr. Delbert O. Williams Jr., M.D. 88 of Dubuque, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Marsha Wilfong officiating. Private burial will be held in Stockton, Illinois. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Delbert was born on January 9, 1929 in Stockton, Illinois, the son of Delbert Sr. and Cecil (Hermann) Williams. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Stockton high school in 1947. Delbert received his degree in pre-med from the University of Dubuque in 1951 and graduated from the University Of Illinois School Of Medicine in 1955. On August 8, 1952, he married Arlys “Jean” Kannegieter. Del served in the U.S. Air Force before moving back to Stockton where he and his partner, Dr. Lyle Rachuy practiced medicine for 25 years. Del then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where retired in 2000 after practicing another 25 years of family medicine. During his career as a physician, he and Jean volunteered on numerous medical mission trips to other countries providing aid to those people in need. Del and Jean have resided in Dubuque since 2006.
Surviving are his wife Jean of Dubuque; 2 sons, David (Karen) Williams of Des Moines, IA and Bob (Penny) Williams of Dyersville, IA; his grandchildren David (Amber) Williams Jr., Michael (Betsy) Williams, Sara (Avery) Williams and Bobbi Rowe; his great grandchildren Victoria and Reese Williams and Addysen and McKynlee Rowe; his sister Marlene (Merle Bardell) Hocraffer of Freeport, IL; his special cousin Dora “Dee” (Billy) Smith of California and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Virgil Hocraffer.
Memorials may be given to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
