Jean M. Matous, 76, died Saturday, May 13, at Hawkeye Care Center. According to Jean’s wishes, a private burial service will be held.

Jean was born August 30, 1940, in Dubuque, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Harris) Matous. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1958. After high school, she worked first at Woolworth’s and then at Torbert Drug Company for 18 years. When Torbert Drug closed, she worked at Hartig Drug, Younkers, and Baskin Robbins. In her younger days, she enjoyed traveling and driving her yellow Mustang.

Survivors include three cousins, Gary (Kennie), Denny (Robbin), and Terry (Sue) Harris, all of Peosta; a sister-in-law, Irma Matous of Ormond Beach, FL; and a niece, Patti Tessendorf; and her children, Jeremy and Christy, of Ormond Beach, FL.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jack Jay, formerly of Ormond Beach, Florida; and a sister, Jilann McCray, formerly of Silvis, Illinois.

The family thanks the entire staff at Hawkeye Care Center for their unfailing kindness to Jean over the years.
