Obituary for Delaine L Kennedy (Freiburger)

Delaine L. Kennedy, 90, of Dubuque, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 8 at Holy Spirit Parish-Holy Ghost Church. Entombment will be at Mount Calvary. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, May 7 at the church, where there will be a parish wake service at 6:30 p.m. Fr. Bernard Kennedy, OFM officiating.
Delaine was born on May 16, 1926 in Sageville, Iowa to Nicholas and Anna (Hess) Freiburger. She married Bernard E. “Huck” Kennedy on August 27, 1949 at Holy Ghost sharing 67 years of married life.
Most importantly, she was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful Catholic. She was never more content than when she held a baby in her arms. Delaine was a great seamstress, quilter, cook, and homemaker with a passion for her rose garden.
Delaine was a member of Holy Ghost Rosary Society, Xavier Hospital Guild, and Stonehill Volunteers.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard “Huck”; their children Ann (Miles) Kiley, Susan (Steven) Wagner, Sr. Patricia Kennedy, OSB, Nona (David) Cooper, Kay (William) Beaster, Gwen (Donald) Hesselman, Fr. Bernard Kennedy, OFM, Peggy (Randall) Dolson, Kerri (William) Feldhaus; grandchildren Matthew (Joie) Booth, Christine Booth Traeder (Ted ), Sarah Wagner Sayers (Ryan), Stephanie Wagner LeFevour (Kelly), Nicholas Wagner (Jamie), Mark (Molly) Wagner, Samuel and Nathaniel Cooper, Andrew (Abigail) Weigman, Katie Weigman Merkes(Douglas), Joseph, Theodore (Renee) Hesselman and Thomas Hessleman, Molly Dolson (Bryan), and Joshua Dolson; 15 great grandchildren; a sister Agnes Gerdemann; and sisters in law Phoebe McCrea and Lavon Marrow; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Nicholas and Anna (Hess) Freiburger. Sisters: Marie (Herbert) Ott, Bernita (Milton) Ott, Lorraine (Donald) Schadle, Rosella (Albert) Fisch, Anastasia (Willard) Henkels, Dolores (John) Frommelt. Brothers: Raymond (Hilda), Norbert (Mildred), Raphael (Gerene), Cletus (Catherine), Merlin (Dorothy and Althea), and Eldon (Janaan). Sister-in-law: Evelyn(Cletus) Havertape and brother-in-laws: John Kennedy, Harold McCrea, Virgil Morrow and Arthur Gerdemann.
In lieu of flowers, a Delaine L. Kennedy Memorial Fund has been established.
Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd, Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
The family thanks Oak Park Place, Mercy Medical Center- Surgical Services, Drs. John Whalen and Robert Magnus for their kindness and compassionate care.
