Obituary for Jacqueline E Welu

Jacqueline E. “Jackie” Welu, 86, of Dubuque died peacefully at home Wednesday, May 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 Kennedy Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection. Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Jackie was born April 6, 1931, in Kieler, WI, daughter of Virgil and Elizabeth “Liz” (Uthe) Hubler. She was a graduate of Cuba City High School. On September 12, 1953, she married James C. Welu at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2008.
Jaqueline was an active, lifetime member of the Church of the Resurrection. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Jackie was a dedicated homemaker who extended love, kindness and home cooked meals to all who graced her table. A great cook and baker, her recipes will always be treasured by her family. Jackie focused her love on her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by seven children, Wendy (Syl) Connolly of Dubuque; Lori (Rick) Trausch of Dubuque and their daughters, Shanna Trausch of Sacremento, CA and Samantha (David) Hogan and their children, Drake, Lucy and Leo of Des Moines, IA; Julie Welu of Dubuque and her daughter, Elizabeth; Tracey (Matt) O’Connor of Hopkinton, IA and their sons, Liam and Seamus; Ann (Jeff) Thompson of Hastings, MN and their sons, Asa and Shane; Eric Welu of Dubuque and his children, Jacob and Gabbi; and Chad Welu (fiancé Amy Shepherd, and her daughter, Mikki and family) of Dubuque.
Jackie is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ann Hubler of Crystal Lake, IL; Adele Palmer and Jean Welu of Dubuque, and her brother in law, T.J. Welu (Carole) of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerhard “Butch” Hubler and James Hubler.
